Used Electric Vehicle Calculator

Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles can be cheaper to run than petrol or diesel cars and vans. This calculator estimates how much you could save on fuel by buying an electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle, compared to the petrol or diesel equivalent.

It also calculates savings on VED (road tax) for vehicles registered between 1 March 2001 and 1 April 2017.

It does not include servicing, maintenance and repair costs, vehicle insurance and the purchase cost. Go to the Energy Saving Trust website for more information about electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles (also known as Ultra Low Emission Vehicles) and buying a used electric car.

The tool does not provide actual running cost information and it is your responsibility to ensure that the vehicle you intend to buy is suitable for your needs and within your budget. By continuing you agree that you have read and understand the disclaimer found on our about this tool page.

This information will help us calculate your total annual mileage and running costs for a hybrid, electric and conventional vehicle

Long journeys can significantly increase the amount of petrol or diesel used in a plug-in hybrid, this information will make the fuel and electricity cost calculations more accurate. Please note the longest journey mileage entered will not be additional to the total mileage provided above.

If your vehicle IS compliant then do not input visits into the ULEZ or a cost will be included in the calculation. To find out if your vehicle meets the emissions standards required for the Ultra Low Emission Zone head to the TfL checker.
